The most common instrument utilised in a samba school bateria. Around 1/3 of the group will play one of these. It's repeating patterns that drive the bateria. They work together with the surdo and repique to give a strong rhymical foundation, which all other instruments build upon.

The Caixa de Guerra is a snare drum with guitar wires for snares, called Bordão. It needs to be tuned high and is played on the side with snare wires.
From samba reggae and ijexa to funk and coco, this drum is the glue that keeps the crowd moving.
