WORKSHOP DETAILS

JP Percussion is pleased to present this extra special guest workshop with Brazilian master drummer Marcos Rios Santos "Feijão" working alongside JP Courtney to deliver a one-off workshop opportunity. Learn new rhythms, musical arrangements and percussion instrument techniques all facilitated by 2 world class tutors whilst meeting old and new friends from bands around the UK. Suitable for people who play in carnival bands, drumming groups, percussionists and other musicians

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This workshop will focus two arrangements:'Não me Deixe Só' - Bateria arrangement used in the carnival procession of Bloco Vagalume in Rio Carnaval, using new concepts and a varierty of rhythms including Ijexa, Funk and Samba.Funk Carioca by Ludmila - arragement played by Bloco da Favorita who initiated the 'Bailes' or funk parties in Rio. Rhythms will include Trip Hop and Funk Carioca (Tamborzão, Maculelê).

ABOUT FEIJÃO
Brazilian Drummer Feijão is a master drummer. His father a member of one of Brazil's most well known groups, MPB-4. He himself has been a major player of some of Brazil's best bands over the years, from Monobloco, to PLAYBob and Du Rio. As a session drummer he has played for many well known artists in Brazil from MPB-4, Lisa Ono to Paula Morelembaum and is present on many of the best recordings you can find in Brazil, such as 'Antonio Carlos Jobim Songbook, Vol. 3' and 'MPB: 40 Anos ao Vivo'.

ABOUT JP
JP Courtney is a professional percussionist, performer, tutor and event organiser from Ireland. He specialises in folk and carnival music from Cuba and Brazil and is considered the best talent in his field in the UK whilst also being a reference for rhythmical information on the modern street carnival of Rio de Janeiro. His skill in playing and teaching has inspired 1000's of percussionists around europe over the last 17 years and his classes are inspiring and unmissable.

INSTRUMENTS
Caixa, repique, surdo (1a, 2a, 3a), tamborim, agogô and chocalho. Please bring both your 1st and 2nd bateria instrument choice if possible. If you're not able to bring any instruments, please contact us before registering.
