Escola de Bateria is a series of special one off workshops consisting of group playing, individual instrument technique, modern arrangements, songs and tips on how to direct.

Geeky Repique

This is a very special one off workshop focusing on all things repique.

The repique has several functions within the bateria and to be sure to be sure there are many different types of repique used in Brazil. There are loads of samba grooves, adaptations of traditional brazilian rhythms, solo phrases and calls.

We will be using both 12" repiques plus some 16" repique Mor.

The style thought will be wooden stick and bare hand.

Time will be spent on these elements -

Many different types of grooves for samba. Other grooves include, Funk, Maculele, Ijexa and more.
Buzz strokes, rim shots, open tones with hand or stick, slaps, muted rim shots, group playing, musical arrangments and solo phrases. to choose the right repique, tuning your repique, what type of heads to use, different rhythms across 2 or more repiques plus questions from your good selves.

The sessions will move at a medium to fast pace.

This is suitable for people who

  • already play in a Brazilian carnival band

  • play other styles of percussion

  • are musically trained

  • dancers who would like to learn or improve their percussion skills

There will also be an opportunity to buy some insturments which may include repiques on the day. If you would like to pre order an caixa starting at £90 please let us know.

Participants need to provide their own instruments where possible. Some may be available on request.
